The Doctor of Nursing degree (N.D.) is a clinical or practice doctorate, similar in concept to practice doctorates in other professions such as medicine (M.C,), law (J.D.) and dentistry (D.D.M.). Individuals with clinical or practice doctorates are the most highly educated and qualified practitioners in their fields. Instead of focusing primarily on research and teaching, like those with Ph.D. within their fields, those with practice doctorates use their education and expertise in leadership roles on the front lines of their profession. In nursing, N.D.-prepared nurses are equipped for leadership roles in nursing practice, business, administration, clinical research, and academia. To address the nursing faculty shortage, Case has developed a new track within the N.D. program focusing on educational theory and methods. The two specific tracks available are the Educational Leadership Track and the Clinical Leadership Track.

Cleveland State University
The MSN program is based on the principles of population health and is designed to prepare graduates with advanced knowledge, competencies, and skills in the nursing care of populations. Students may select from the following tracks available, according to their interests and professional goals.
- Population Health: Specialized Populations
http://graduatestudies.csuohio.edu/catalog/?View=entry&EntryID=332#sp
The specialized population track allows students to select a population of interest with approval of the faculty. Students in this track follow the program described under the MSN degree. The track enables nurses to practice with populations across care settings.
- Population Health: Clinical Nurse Leader
http://graduatestudies.csuohio.edu/catalog/?View=entry&EntryID=332#cn The Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) track is designed to meet the Ten Assumptions listed below developed by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN, 2004). This track prepares nurses to be leaders in the health care delivery system across all settings in which health care is delivered. Courses prepare students to design, implement, and evaluate client care by coordinating, delegating, and supervising direct care provided by the health care team. Ten Assumptions for Preparing Clinical Nurse Leaders (AACN, 2004)
• Practice is at the Microsystems level.
• Client care outcomes are the measure of quality practice.
• Practice guidelines are based on evidence.
• Client-centered practice is intra- and inter-disciplinary.
• Information will maximize self-care and client decision-making.
• Nursing assessment is the basis for theory and knowledge development.
• Good fiscal stewardship is a condition of quality care.
• Social justice is an essential nursing value.
• Communication technology will facilitate the continuity and comprehensiveness of care.
• The CNL must assume guardianship for the nursing profession.
*Note: The CNL role is not one of administration, but rather a provider and manager of care to individuals or cohorts within a unit or health care setting.
- Population Health: Nursing Education
http://graduatestudies.csuohio.edu/catalog/?View=entry&EntryID=332#ne
The nursing education track provides nurses in the MSN program with the opportunity to acquire the skills needed for the teaching and clinical supervision of nursing students. Graduates of this program are prepared to teach and clinically supervise nursing students in the care of specifically identified populations or cognate area. For example graduate students may study the health care needs of medical surgical clients as their cognate area and then apply the principles learned in the education track to the instruction of student nurses delivering care to this group of clients. Graduate students will take the core courses in the master’s program as well as specialized courses focusing on nursing education: curriculum design and development, instructional design, faculty and student roles, and the evaluation and supervision of nursing student nurses.
- Population Health: Forensic Nursing
http://graduatestudies.csuohio.edu/catalog/?View=entry&EntryID=332#f
The Master of Science in Forensic Nursing offered by Cleveland State University through the University Partnership Center is structured so that students will receive the core courses in the MSN: Specialized Population major. Forensic nurses provide care to victims/perpetrators of trauma and/or death due to criminal acts or traumatic events. In this program students will acquire the in-depth knowledge and skill that interfaces nursing with the law, forensic science, law enforcement, mental health, and the health care and judicial systems. This program allows the student to gain a strong foundation in population health as well as theory and research. In addition students will be required to take courses specifically related to the population of victims/perpetrators of crime, violence or traumatic events.
Barry University

The Physician Assistant program offered by Barry University is a fully accredited and challenging graduate program leading to the Master of Clinical Medical Science degree with the Physician Assistant Certificate. This graduate degree program includes intensive high-level academic preparation; quality clinical experience at local hospitals, primary care centers, and physicians' practices; and small class sizes allowing students to interact directly with the distinguished full-time faculty. The focus of the 28-month program is on primary care. To that end, didactic and clinical components of the curriculum emphasize the tasks required by a "generalist" provider of patient care. The broad objective of this master's-level program is to provide the community with a competent, professional, and ethical clinician who has the medical knowledge and the necessary psychosocial skills to provide family-oriented medical care.
